The Association of Novi Sad Architects (DaNS) emerged from the forty years-long tradition of professional organizations of Novi Sad architects which can be tracked back to 1920, when the Novi Sad subdivision of the Association of Engineers and Architects of Yugoslavia was established. DaNS originates from the Novi Sad branch of Vojvodinian Architects Council. Initially, its name was the Association of the Architects of the District of Novi Sad. The Association was officially established in 1960 as an independent professional organization of architects, voluntarily united members, while its current name dates back to 1965. The year it was established, DaNS had 85 members, and its first president was the architect Petar Tanasijin. At the moment, the Association has 613 members whose practice ranges from architectural to urban design, planning, research and education, via landscape architecture, preservation of cultural heritage, stage design and art practices, to information technologies and virtual space.

The key manifestations that DaNS founded are the Salon of Architecture Novi Sad and the Days of Architecture Novi Sad (initiated in 1993), as well as the Architecture Prize Đorđe Tabaković—the most prestigious recognition of the lifetime achievement first awarded in 1995 to the architect Pavle Žilnik. Likewise, DaNS often organizes exhibitions, lectures, debates, workshops, and educational programs for its members and the public. Since 2017, it has been running of the Focus on Modernism project, and the Urban Planning Watch Team project since 2019. DaNS is also a publisher. Its most important publication is certainly DaNS, the magazine for architecture and urban planning, which has been published since 1982. Since its very foundation, DaNS has partnered the City, Province, and State in organizing architecture-urban planning and grant competitions, alongside other activities of significance in the realm of architecture. DaNS is part of the Union of Engineers and Technicians of Vojvodina. It is also constitutive of the Union of Architects of Serbia, an officially representative national professional association.
